Component Recording¶
Introduction¶
Component recording enables automatic documentation of all welding data for every seam welded by either manual welding machines (QINEO) or automated welding robots (QIROX). The purpose of component recording is to:
- Visualize Results: Display detailed welding data and process parameters for each seam
- Track Quality Issues: Identify and document any quality issues detected by the machine's weld monitor (SD Module)
- Ensure Traceability: Create comprehensive quality reports linked to specific workpieces
- Enable Analytics: Collect structured data for process optimization and statistical analysis
C-Gate acts as the central hub, collecting welding data from both automated and manual welding systems and correlating it with workpiece identification through barcode/RFID scanning or programmatic control.
Key Concepts¶
Component recording uses a hierarchical data structure to organize welding information:
- Component
- A component represents a complete workpiece. It is the top-level container for all welding data and can contain data from multiple robots and production steps.
- Production Step
- A production step is a phase of work performed by a single robot on a component. Multiple robots can work on the same component if their steps are combined in a protocol with matching type, variant, and serial number.
- Seam
- A seam is a logically related group of welding segments within a production step. Seams help organize and structure the component record.
- Segment
- A segment is recorded only when the robot performs an arc ignition during a seam or the welder actively welds on a QINEO device. All welding parameters during that segment are automatically captured.
Choose Your Platform¶
Select your platform type to access detailed configuration and operating instructions:
QIROX Products (Automated Welding)¶
For QIROX robots, component recording is managed through Carola programming. The robot controller automatically records all welding process parameters, while your Carola program controls the component lifecycle and quality recording.
- QS 2.18+ (Recommended): Simplified function-based commands with automatic buffer management
- Older Versions: Legacy procedure-based approach for backward compatibility

QINEO Products (Manual Welding)¶
For QINEO power sources, component recording is managed through barcode or RFID scanner integration. The scanner uniquely identifies workpieces throughout the welding process, automatically linking all welding data to that workpiece.
- Datalogic Touch 90 Pro: Recommended scanner solution
- Other Scanners: Any keyboard simulation mode compatible scanner

Best Practices for Both Systems¶
Shared Recommendations¶
- Synchronization: Ensure device clocks are synchronized for accurate timestamp correlation
- Backup: Regularly backup component recording data and quality reports
- Data Retention: Define data retention policies aligned with quality and compliance requirements
- Monitoring: Monitor component recording success rates and investigate anomalies
- Documentation: Maintain documentation of configurations and code changes
Data Quality¶
- Use meaningful, descriptive names for components, steps, and seams
- Ensure unique identifiers (serial numbers or Scanner IDs) throughout the system
- Attach external measurement data when available for enhanced traceability
- Regularly audit component records for completeness and accuracy
